You absolutely do have a choice. Most amputees have little time to prepare for losing a limb and find themselves numb with grief and feelings of isolation. Prosthetics is a medical specialty few people are acquainted with, including many health care professionals. However, there are many differences among practitioners, and amputees and their families need to take the time to gather information and learn about the many options available. In most cases, even if one prosthetist made you a preparatory artificial limb, you can select a different prosthetist to make your permanent prosthesis. While your physician or surgeon may make a referral based on your insurance or a recommendation to a company they frequently use, it is ultimately the decision of the patient who they feel the most comfortable with in entrusting their care. The person who ultimately makes that decision is your doctor. We require a prescription from your doctor in order to begin fabrication of a prosthesis. Evaluations and consultations are always done free of charge. Our staff will take every opportunity to consult with your physician regarding your amputation, any medical precautions, and anything that could effect your options or expected outcome.

Yes! Florida State Law requires Prosthetists, Orthotists and Pedorthists to pass a written exam and apply for licensure with the Department of Health: Board of Orthotists & Prosthetists to obtain licensure in order to treat patients. All practitioners at ABC Prosthetics & Orthotics are licensed by the State of Florida's Department of Health, and are ABC Certified by the American Board for Certification for Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics. Our staff also regularly earns continuing education credits as required by the State and ABC Credentialing Body. We frequently attend meetings and seminars which concentrate on potential advances in the fields of prosthetics and orthotics that could prove to be beneficial to our clients.
